Writing an email late at night but want it to arrive first thing in the morning? Or need a reminder to land on a specific day? Gmail's Schedule send lets you write a message now and have Gmail send it later, at a date and time you choose. This guide walks through every screen on Gmail for the web, then shows how to find, change or cancel scheduled emails, and how to do the same in the Gmail mobile app.
Quick answer
In Gmail on a computer, click Compose and write your email. Click the Down arrow next to Send, then Schedule send. Pick one of the suggested times, or click Pick date & time, choose a date and time, and click Schedule send. How to schedule an email in Gmail on a computer
Step 1: Write your email and open the Send menu
- Go to Gmail and click Compose (top left).
- Add the recipient, subject and message as you normally would. If you send the same kind of message often, a Gmail template can fill in the text for you before you schedule it.
- Instead of clicking Send, click the small Down arrow right next to it.

Step 2: Click Schedule send
A small menu opens above the Send button with one option, Schedule send. Click it.

Step 3: Pick a suggested time or choose your own
The Schedule send box opens. Right under the title, Gmail shows the time zone it will use (in our screenshot, Eastern Standard Time). Every time in this box is in that time zone, so check it before you pick, especially if your recipient is somewhere else.
- Quick option: click one of the suggested times. In our test (on a Sunday morning) Gmail offered This morning (Nov 1, 8:00 AM), This afternoon (Nov 1, 1:00 PM) and Monday morning (Nov 2, 8:00 AM). Your suggestions may differ depending on when you schedule. Clicking one schedules the email for that time.
- Custom time: click Pick date & time and go to Step 4.

Step 4: Set the date and time, then confirm
- Click a day on the calendar, or type the date in the date field on the right. Use the arrows above the calendar to move between months.
- Type or select the time in the time field below the date, for example
8:30 AM. - Click the blue Schedule send button. (Click Cancel to go back without scheduling.)

The compose window closes and the email moves to your Scheduled folder, where it waits until its send time.
How to view, edit or cancel a scheduled email
Open the Scheduled folder
In the left panel, click Scheduled. If you don’t see it, click More to expand the list of folders. You can also type in:scheduled in the Gmail search box. The folder shows the banner “Messages in Scheduled will be sent at their scheduled time.” and lists every email that is waiting to go out.

Cancel a scheduled email
- In Scheduled, open the email you want to stop.
- At the top right of the email, click Cancel send.
The email is not sent and becomes a draft. You can then edit it, schedule it again, send it now or delete it like any other draft.
Edit or reschedule a scheduled email
To change a scheduled email, Google’s steps are to cancel it, make your changes and schedule it again:
- Open the email in Scheduled and click Cancel send. It opens as a draft.
- Make your changes: fix the text, add a recipient or attachment, and so on.
- Click the Down arrow next to Send → Schedule send, and pick the new date and time. (To move only the time, just reschedule without editing.)
How to schedule an email in the Gmail app (Android, iPhone, iPad)
- Open the Gmail app and tap Compose (bottom right).
- Write your email.
- At the top right, tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Schedule send and select an option.
To view, change or cancel in the app: tap Menu → Scheduled, open the email and tap Cancel send. It becomes a draft. To reschedule it, open the draft, make your changes, then tap More → Schedule send again.
Tips
- Check the time zone line. Times follow the time zone shown under the “Schedule send” title. If you’re writing to someone in another time zone, convert their local time to yours before you pick.
- Allow a few minutes’ slack. Google notes that scheduled emails can go out a few minutes late, so don’t rely on the exact minute for deadlines.
- Stay under 100. Gmail allows up to 100 scheduled emails at a time. Clear out ones you no longer need with Cancel send.
- Use search.
in:scheduledjumps straight to your queue, even when the Scheduled folder is hidden under More. - Sending now instead? Undo send is a different feature: it gives you a few seconds to pull back an email right after you click Send. If you use Thexyz Webmail, see How to Use Undo Send in Thexyz Webmail (and Set the Send Delay).
